Roger Jones was born in Birmingham and trained at the Birmingham School of Music. He then spent 16 years at Aston Manor School in Birmingham teaching music, and eventually became Head of Lower School. In the early 1970’s he began writing songs for his school choir about Easter, which emerged as a cantata entitled ‘Jerusalem Joy’ (1975).<\/span><\/p>\n

Roger and his wife Mary live in Lickey End, Bromsgrove, near Birmingham. They have four children: Tim, Andrew, Peter (who tragically died in 2002) and Sally \u2013 and six grandchildren, all of whom live nearby. Roger loves football and is a keen supporter of Birmingham City, and he can often be found at Edgbaston County Cricket Ground supporting Warwickshire. More recently Roger has developed a love of radio, helping to host a weekly show called ‘Heart & Soul’ on a local internet radio site. Roger and Mary also love their visits to Weston-super-Mare, and delight in taking their dog, Poppy, for walks on the beach.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2018 Roger was awarded the Mary Jones Prize by the Bible Society for his musical \u2018Greater than Gold\u2019 (1983) and its contribution to keeping the story of Welsh girl, Mary Jones, and her Bible alive worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2019 Roger received the Cranmer Award for Worship from the Archbishop of Canterbury in recognition of many years using music to share the Gospel.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Mary was born in East Birmingham and trained to be an SRN at Dudley Road Hospital in the 60’s. After midwifery training, she became a District Nurse and trundled round on a bicycle, much like the nurses in Call the Midwife!<\/span><\/p>\n

She met Roger at Grenfell Baptist Church, where they eventually married in 1972. Mary gave up nursing in order to start a family, which quickly grew to 4 children, and eventually 6 grandchildren! She never went back to nursing as it soon became clear that Roger needed her support as the ministry of CMM began to emerge and when he eventually gave up teaching to go into it full-time. She gradually realised this was her calling. In the early days she was much more\u201d hands-on\u201d in the CMM office and stayed at home with the children while Roger was away. In more recent years, since the family gradually left the nest, she has been able to go with Roger on many of his Ministry trips, assisting behind the scenes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mary, with Roger, now worships at Holy Trinity Church Lickey, since they moved to Bromsgrove, South West of Birmingham nearly 10 years ago. She joins in with parish life as and when the Ministry allows and is soon to be included on the Home Communion Team.<\/span><\/p>\n

She helps her daughter and son in-law with their 2 daughters as often as she can and fills other hours with music, reading and walking Poppy the dog as well as looking after the home.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Annie Routley studied music at Exeter University. She moved from the West Country to Birmingham in 1979 to work for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and then the International Nepal\n Fellowship before joining Roger at CMM full-time in 1994.<\/p>\n

Annie came to CMM with a wide range of experience: playing viola, keyboards and singing with Christian groups at conferences and on radio and television. She assists Roger in his itinerant\n ministry and leads musical-in-a-day events. <\/p>\n

Annie is responsible for typesetting all of CMM’s music books and writes orchestral parts for all the musicals. Sophie grew up in Horsham, West Sussex and has always had a passion for music as a result of learning to play the piano and alto saxophone. This led her to study a BA Music degree at Bath\n Spa University from which she graduated in 2019.<\/p>\n

Since then, Sophie has been deciphering her calling and has, ultimately, felt led to make the move to Worcestershire to start working for CMM as the Events and Marketing Administrator. In\n this role, Sophie mainly handles the social media and marketing, administration for events and helps with the music making on the road.<\/p>\n

During the lockdown of early 2021, Sophie found another outlet for her creativity in making various small creations using resin. Tim works as Head of Sales at CMM. He is responsible for fulfilling customer orders and managing stock at the office as well as dealing with printing companies, publishers and the wider Christian\n book trade. Tim also arranges a lot of Roger’s music and has his own series of worship song backing track albums. Most recently, he has produced an instrumental album featuring alternative\n jazz arrangements of a selection of Roger’s songs: ‘Jones Got Rhythm’.<\/p>\n

Tim, his wife Emma and their children Michael and Bethany, attend Bromsgrove Baptist Church where they are all involved in the worship team and various other activities. Jane was born in Tenby, South Wales and moved to the West Midlands in 1988 with her husband, David, who was asked to relocate for work for a total of three years. 31 years and two children\n later, Jane now considers Cofton Hackett as her home, although on times, she misses living close to the ocean. Both her children have been baptised in Holy Trinity, Lickey. It was here\n that Jane and her husband were confirmed and continue to worship.<\/p>\n

Jane trained and has worked in accounts for three decades but with her children all grown up and not requiring her support for organising events, she needs a new outlet to put her organisational\n skills to work.<\/p>\n

Jane enjoys sketching; puzzles; swimming and spending time with her three two legged men, and her four legged tearaway, Rocco. <\/p>\n

A Thursday – night house group which meets weekly to support and uphold in prayer all the varied work of Christian Music Ministries. One key aspect of this inter-denominational group is to always spend time worshipping, seeking the\n Lord and listening to Him through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. For Director Roger Jones and his wife Mary, EBRG is a place where members can share together and deepen their walk with God in a safe place and be accountable\n to one another, as well as enjoying close friendships formed over many years.<\/p>\n

EBRG (East Birmingham Renewal Group) Chairperson and Trustee, Gill Johnson, along with Roger and Mary, was a founder member of EBRG back in the early 1980’s when Roger was first called to leave his role as music teacher and head\n of lower school in Aston, Birmingham, and go into full-time music ministry. At that time, all the members lived and worshipped in East Birmingham, and longed to see local churches renewed in the power of the Holy Spirit. Now, in\n the 2020’s, the members mostly no longer live in East Birmingham but the name continues. EBRG consists of eight people, Roger and Mary Jones, Gill and Brian Johnson (Brian sadly passed away in 2024), Alan and Sue Walker, Annie Routley and John Hopkins. <\/strong>At\n the beginning of each year, the group makes a weekend retreat to seek the Lord in a special way for the year to come, often with an outside speaker. Week by week, all CMM events, church retreats, music weeks, CMM Choir rehearsals\n and concerts, musical-in-a-day events and conferences are prayed from at EBRG. The group also waits on the Lord for words and pictures that might help and equip for the event coming up. Years of such events and seeking God have helped\n EBRG to develop CMM’s two main teaching resources, co-authored by Roger, Annie and Helen Pollard – Worship Works<\/strong> and Spirit Works<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n
